Honeywell has recently announced an important firmware update to its popular Xenon 1900g and 1902g handheld scanner families. The new firmware includes these enhancements:
- Three new toggle modes
- New entry-level Digimarc capable firmware in all standard Xenon 1900gs, and 1902gs
- Two new entry-level Digimarc-enabled SKUs
Three New Toggle Modes
When connected directly to an iPad, smartphone, or laptop via Bluetooth HID, you can already toggle the virtual keyboard with several quick pulls of the scanner’s trigger. Now the Xenon adds these additional toggle options:
- Scanning /imaging
- Scanning /mobile phone
- Full FOV /centring
The primary mode (in bold) is the default (normal mode) of operation. When the operator pulls the trigger rapidly for a configurable number of times (default is 3) the scanner will “toggle” between modes. So if the scanner is in the primary mode, it will toggle to the secondary mode, and if it is in the secondary mode, it will toggle to the primary mode. On the next trigger pull (the 4th pull if the scanner is set to the default of 3 pulls) the scanner will perform the toggled to function.
For example, if the operator is in the scanning mode of the scanning/mobile phone toggle option and needs to scan a hard to read the digital barcode on the customer’s mobile phone, the operator will pull the trigger rapidly 4 times. On the fourth trigger pull, the scanner will read the digital bar code on the mobile phone with our “turbocharged” mobile phone mode. Now the operator simply has to pull the trigger rapidly 4 times again, and, on the fourth trigger pull, they will be back reading with our “normal” bar code reading mode.
As a precautionary measure, if the scanner is not in use for an extended, configurable, period of time (default is 5 seconds) and the scanner is in the secondary toggle mode, the scanner will automatically toggle back to primary mode. In this way at the start of a shift or after the scanner hasn’t been in use for a while, the operator will always know what toggle mode they are starting out in.
